Haynes Floyd

Bedford Haynes Floyd was born to country life and hunting. Born at the Double T Farm, the rural way of life has always been his source of pleasure and employment. Double T Farm has been synonymous with excellence in the breeding of livestock since 1945, continually expanded and diversified to include some of the most intensive breeding programs of quality Aberdeen Angus and Brangus cattle.

At the early age of 8 Haynes trained his own setter-pointer cross, an almost black bitch, to go hunting with him where the game was blue jays, squirrels and rabbit and the gun - a BB rifle. Later, as Haynes got his first shotgun, they progressed to quail, which created a far greater thrill of hunting with a dog.

In the successful operation of the farm Haynes has been involved in all phases of the various breeding programs and as a youth was heavily involved in showing cattle. His impressive list of awards includes Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion in statewide competitions for four years in a row, as well as numerous showmanship awards with his prize Angus steers. While in school, Haynes stayed involved in showing and promoting cattle for Double T Farms and associated cattle breeders at events all over the United States. He graduated in 1969 with a degree in Agriculture Economics from Mississippi State University. In that same year, his father, Mr. Tom Taylor Floyd, was named Delta Council Cattleman of the Year. In 1985, the same award was given to Haynes, making them the first father and son to ever receive that honor in the state of Mississippi.

But it was hunting and dogs that was Haynes's big love and in the 1970's, Haynes took his personal interest in quality dogs into the breeding and training of American Labrador Retrievers and show-quality Rottweilers. In 1998, Haynes began an extensive building program at Double T to provide the quality kennels and training grounds he had dreamed of. In search of his ideal hunting dog, Haynes visited Wildrose Kennels owned by Ed Apple. A subsequent purchase of a yellow male out of FTCh Scapaflow Darra gave Haynes first hand knowledge of the unique qualities of the British Labrador. That was the start of a true love affair.
Haynes moved his Double T British Kennels to South Central Kansas in the fall of 2005. "I love upland bird hunting, and so do my dogs, so moving to Kansas was a natural choice." Haynes may have left Mississippi, but Mississippi will never leave Haynes. He remains a loyal Ole Miss fan and travels often to his home state to spend time back in his old stomping grounds. But wherever Haynes goes, his dogs are never far from his heart.


Haynes sums up his feelings when he states '"The overall philosophy of Double T British Kennels comesfrom long-established standards of excellence brought down from previous generations. We subscribed to the policy that quality is of more importance than quantity. We have a sincere desire to produce the best and provide opportunities for others who have an appreciation for one of the best animals ever produced to serve as a companion to a family and partner to the sportsman."
