OUR KENNELS
Our name
"Double T" comes from the historic Double T Farm located in Panola
and Tate County of Northern Mississippi. The name itself dates back to 1945
when "Double T. Farm" was established by the grandfather and parents
of the kennel's owner, Bedford Haynes Floyd and named from the initials
of his father, Tom Taylor Floyd.
Double
T BritishKennels is located in South Central Kansas in absolute bird heaven.
Double T is located on highway 50, just east of the small town of Sylvia,
Kansas. The area is mainly agricultural, with Hutchinson being the closest
larger city. The facility itself was established at its present location
in 2005. New kennels and a new whelping house were added first, and both
are equipped with air-conditioning and heating. The land at Double T British
Kennels provides the perfect ground for working, training and exercising
Labrador Retrievers. You can hunt pheasant, quail, duck, geese, turkey and
deer within a few miles of Double T. We even have pheasants and turkey that
roost in the yard!
With his strong background in breeding livestock Haynes decided that if
he was to have the best, then his dogs deserved the best accommodation,
maternity wing, feeding, exercise and training program. The true mission
of Double T British Kennels is to provide healthy, socialized pups and well
trained Labrador Retrievers for the hunter who is looking for that special
hunting dog and family companion.
Double
T Kennel Manager Betsy McKinney makes it her personal responsibility to
balance caring for the pups with playing and loving them. Betsy says, "Our
pups are absolutely the sweetest, most lovable puppies you can find, not
to mention that they are pups with the best British bloodlines in America."
To breed the best, you need the best. To achieve this, Double T enlisted
the help of an internationally recognized British Trainer - Martin Deeley
- as a consultant to advise and find the best Labrador Retriever lines in
Britain. Extensive research and visits to both Britain and Scotland have
resulted in the importation of top lines of dogs that have proven themselves
in the field, including dogs that have achieved major awards and the title
of Field Trial Champion.
It has been commented by a Labrador Retriever historian that not since the 1950's and 60's has there been such an introduction of quality bloodlines into the breed in the United States. Give us a call today to schedule your visit to our kennel, and see for yourself our commitment to excellence!

Sylvia,
Kansas History
In the 1870's, Sylvia was a sand mound about 300 yards around its base;
it was located on the Thompson ranch. You could see where men had lain while
they shot buffalo. Prairie dogs and rattlesnakes were very numerous. The
land on which Sylvia is located was deeded by the State of Kansas to the
Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railways Co. in 1884. In 1886, the land was
deeded to H.S. Thompson and his wife, Mary. It was then immediately transferred
to the Sylvia Town Company whence it was platted as the town of Sylvia and
finally incorporated in 1887. The name "Sylvia" was given to the
city by A.A. Robinson, a vice president of the Santa Fe railroad, in honor
of his wife. Mr. Thompson insisted the name of the town be "Zenith"
to honor of the local Star Route post office. A compromise was reached when
Mr. Robinson agreed to put in another post office station five miles west
and call it Zenith. A correspondent from the Leavenworth Times traveled
through Sylvia in 1886 and said, "Nature had intended this site for
Sylvia."
Today Sylvia extends a Kansas small-town welcome and welcomes visitors from
all around the world. During hunting season, residents of this Western Reno
County town are used to seeing hunter orange as the most popular color of
clothing. Sylvia prides itself on being one of the best upland bird hunting
areas in all of the Midwest. Sylvia residents say, "Come share our
space!"
